If water is running, stop it first: close the main where the line enters the house, or the cold inlet on the water heater for a hot-side leak. Then call. For anything that is not running, the form works just as well.

What to have to hand
None of this is required, but each item shortens the first call.
- Roughly when the house was built, and whether it sits on a slab
- What you see, hear or feel, and in which room
- What the water meter did with every tap off, if you have checked
- The age and size from the water heater label, if it is a heater question
- Whether a cleanout is accessible, if it is a drain or sewer question
- Your ZIP code
What happens after you call
Your details go to one independent local plumbing company. Someone there calls you back to ask about the house and the problem. Some questions end there: a flapper that needs replacing, a meter test that shows no leak, a heater that only needed its pilot relit. Others need a visit, which you arrange directly with the company at a time that suits you both. Price is agreed with them before work starts.
What can and cannot be settled by phone
Whether something is urgent, which valve to close, and whether a meter reading means a leak can usually be settled in a few minutes. A price for a slab leak repair or a repipe cannot, because it depends on where the leak is, how the pipe runs and what floor is on top. A firm number quoted without a visit is either padded or wrong.
Calls are recorded
You will hear a short announcement before your call connects. California requires the consent of everyone on a call before it is recorded, and the announcement is that notice. Recordings exist so the details of a job are not misremembered, and for nothing else. If you would rather not be recorded, use the form.

Common questions
Can I send a photo?
Yes. Mention it in the form and the company will tell you where to send it. A photo of the water heater label or the meter dial saves a lot of description.
Do you answer at night?
The line is answered during the hours shown. Whether the plumbing company takes night calls is up to them; they will tell you.
